New Years Resolutions and Your Dental Health

Do you want to be healthier in 2018? Don’t forget about your teeth!

Happy New Year! With the beginning of a new year, many of us have resolutions that we want to work on for 2018, but how many of you want to improve the health of your mouth? Dental health is often overlooked and people tend to focus on eating healthier and exercising, both of which are great resolutions.

But for a healthy life, your mouth needs to remain healthy. The good news is that practicing proper dental hygiene is easy and only takes a couple minutes each day to complete! We want all of our patients to have a healthy life, and, to help you start making a positive impact on the health of your teeth and gums, here are some things that you should focus on.

Begin Eating Mouth-Healthy Foods

Many of you are probably looking to eat healthier in 2018, but some foods are not just good for your overall health, but also for your dental health. Fibrous foods such as celery and dairy products are great for the health of your mouth. But it isn’t all about what you start eating; sometimes it is also about what you stop eating. Cutting down on sugary foods and drinks can help reduce your risk of cavities, decay and gum disease.

Do you Floss?

If you are not making a habit of flossing two times each day you are missing bacteria that brushing can not reach. Flossing can reduce the risk of gum disease and tooth decay.

Visit the Dentist

It is important to practice good dental hygiene at home, but scheduling routine visits to the dentist are crucial for stopping dental health issues from advancing and making sure your teeth and gums remain healthy.
