Dr. Kinn’s Top 10 Ways to Save Money on Dental Treatment (and possibly extend your life 7 years!)

#1 – Fluoride!

In your water, toothpaste, mouth rinse, topical fluoride applications by your hygienist, fluoride drops for infants and toddlers, and fluoride in your multivitamin.

#2 – Floss!

At least once a day, more if you want. Flossing not only helps to eliminate decay between the teeth, it is the most important oral hygiene technique to prevent periodontal (gum) disease.

#3 – Brush!

At least twice a day, for at least two minutes…more if you want.

#4 – Less Sugar!

No bottles or sippy cups with milk or juice for infants or toddlers when napping or sleeping. Carbohydrates are sugars. Cake, cookies, donuts, breads, etc., can be used by the bacteria that are in your mouth, like it or not, to produce acids that cause cavities and contribute to periodontal disease.

#5 – Regular Dental Cleanings and Exams!

We have patients on 3 month, 4 month, 6 month and yearly recall appointments depending on periodontal disease status, oral hygiene compliance, collaboration with our periodontist specialist and in some instances genetic predisposition.

#6 – Listen to your Hygienist!

She or he is not blowing smoke. They are not only trained in mechanical scaling and prophylaxis, they are experts in factors causing gum disease and how to prevent them. My hygienists are expert dental educators. Ask them about the “Modified Bass Technique” for brushing, the proper technique for flossing, and aids available.

#7 – Don’t Wait Until it Hurts!

Toothaches always cost more money. ER visits, large fillings, root canals, crowns, extractions, and/or implants can result. All can be expensive.

#8 – Keep the Teeth that Your Creator Gave You!

Dentistry has made amazing advancements, but your original equipment is still the best.

#9 – Personal Dentist Note!

Our office strives to care for toothaches same day when possible, but patients’ reluctance or procrastination to follow through with recommended treatment shouldn’t make it my emergency.

#10 – Smile and Live Longer!
